Welcome to Smiling Mo's Bakery
Smiling Mo's Bakery was inspired by family members who have wheat and gluten allergies. Mo began baking some delicious gluten free cookies over 17 years ago. Gluten Free cookies that taste so good even non-gluten free people are asking for them!

Watching my mother carefully in the kitchen in Egypt and eventually in the States in 1976, she gave me the confidence I have in my own kitchen today. During high school and college, I worked as a baker which helped me with tuition and book fees. Later in life I became a teacher in the Olympia School District, always sharing my cooked treats. My classroom was made up of great students who had different emotional, physical and psychological challenges. I enjoyed every day with them and the challenges they brought. Each student had a special gift, we worked hard in bringing the positive out, and focused on it daily. My students were in and out of incarceration, group homes, and foster care. To encourage them to think of others who might be in a more difficult situation and to help, my classroom worked on fixing bikes to give to students in Togo, Africa a way to get to school. We found a partnership with a local business called Alafia. My class managed to get over 500 bikes through our classroom, and sent to Togo. Northwest Cable News did a feature on my class, airing the story for two days back in 2007. We gave hours and hours of service to our school and community daily. I helped students to find their passion, especially when it involved cooking, cooking and baking for different school functions.
In the school year of 2010, it was announced that due to budget cuts the school district would no longer be running our program. Life changes create different opportunities, learning from my own students, how challenges in life can create opportunities, I started to bake again. For over twenty years I have been baking Gluten Free pastries for my gluten intolerant wife. The feedback from my family, friends, and colleagues, has been overwhelmingly positive, with many saying they would never have guessed my cookies were gluten free. All of this leads me to starting Smiling Mo’s Bakery. The bakery was named Smiling Mo’s Bakery because throughout my life, I have been complemented for my warm smile. In January of 2012, I turned my love and passion for baking into a business, and we are spreading throughout the northwest.
My cookies are made with organic and local ingredients without preservatives. Sugars have been cut back, allowing the natural ingredients to give people the edge they need to perform activities without the crash.
